Marriages in the Swindon Registration District

To Book Your Marriage in Swindon

If you want to get married in the Swindon registration district within 12 months from now and you live in the district, you must give your notice of marriage to the Superintendent Registrar. Your booking will be confirmed at that time. If you do not live in the district, you may make a provisional booking with the Superintendent Registrar and confirmation of your booking will be subject to you giving notice of marriage in the district of which you are resident, by the date specified by the Superintendent Registrar.

You can also provisionally book your marriage if the date you would like is between 12 and 24 months ahead. This booking can be made in person or by post and is subject to you giving notice of marriage in your district of residence at the appropriate time. You will be informed of the date by which notice must be given by the Superintendent Registrar.

The Swindon Register Office is full time and has an answering machine which will give details of the opening hours when it is closed.

Swindon Borough Council prides itself on the level of service that it provides to members of the public, and its level of customer care in general. The facilities available in our Register Office reflect this, and we aim to provide the kind of facilities that couples would like on their special day.

Gone are the days when a register office marriage meant a simple ceremony held in front of an office desk. Our marriage room is now attractively furnished and decorated. The options available enable you to have any kind of ceremony ranging from a simple affair with just two witnesses, to the inclusion of bridesmaids, the bride being given away, and music and readings of your choice. For music and readings, however, the law requires that there is no religious content in the civil ceremony, so items chosen must be agreed with the Superintendent Registrar whose decision on their inclusion is final.

As well as the register office, you can also choose to get married at other approved premises.
