Summary of Behaviour Policy at the Children's Nursery

Behaviour Policy Statement

We, at The Children’s Nursery understand that children are born with their own unique personality and that they learn their behaviour from their surroundings and experiences. We, the adults – staff and parents/carers - must work in partnership and need to set a good example while allowing the children to experiment and explore.

Introduction:

The responsibility for promoting, developing and monitoring the behaviour policy within The Children’s Nursery rests with the management team. The Childcare Manager will take forward this responsibility supported by the Business Manager who will deputise in her/his absence.

We will have regard for the standards of care expected of us by Ofsted; current legislation; Child protection; Equal Opportunities and SEN. Details of Ofsted standards and the relevant policies are available from the office.

Good behaviour is about playing creatively, getting along with others, having fun within boundaries and knowing it is safe sometimes to test those boundaries.

We have identified three basic ingredients that contribute to good behaviour:

  1. Love
  2. Safety
  3. Fair rules

When children have difficulty expressing their needs we can demonstrate we care about them, their needs and welfare but showing them they are loved.

As long as we provide a safe environment for the children according to their individual needs they will be able to experiment and explore with confidence.

Children will develop a better understanding of what is acceptable behaviour in specific situations if our approach is fair and consistent and if they can see the direct relationship between good behaviour and reward.
