Housing

Homelessness

Swindon Borough Council has a team of Housing Options Advisors who can assist you if you are facing homelessness or are looking for somewhere to live and you are not sure what choices you have.

If you are becoming homeless, it is advisable to contact the Housing Options Team at the earliest opportunity to allow them time to explore all possible alternatives. This includes:

  • Applying for social housing
  • Finding accommodation in the private sector
  • Applying for supported housing
  • Preventing your homelessness
  • Helping with deposits for private lets
  • Applying for low cost home ownership
  • Applying for key worker housing

How to Contact the Housing Options Team

  • Come into the One Stop Shop (please see Customer Services).
  • Call us on 01793 463181.
  • Contact the out-of-hours service.
    If you become homeless while our offices are closed, you can contact the on-call Homeless Officer via our Control Room on 01793 466451.
    In certain circumstances, the Homeless Officer may be able to arrange emergency accommodation for you until our offices re-open.

Survival Guide

A 'Survival Guide' booklet (pictured, right) is available, which provides 'first point of contact' information for homeless people, those at risk of becoming homeless, and frontline workers assisting homeless people in the Swindon.

It gives basic information about services and agencies available in Swindon.

You can contact most of the agencies and services in the booklet yourself to ask for help and advice. In many cases the services will be able to help you immediately or refer you to another organisation that is more appropriate for your needs.
