CCTV can play a vital role in crime prevention and detection as well as raising public confidence and feelings of safety.
Housing currently has 295 cameras covering, Pinehurst, Penhill, Park South, Park North, West Swindon, Eldene, Stratton St Margaret, Walcot East.
All our cameras are watched 24 hours a day 365 days per year, and our control room is staffed by Borough Council employees working in partnership with Wiltshire Police, Crime and Disorder Team, Local Communities, etc.
We have tended to see CCTV as working best when it is considered, not in isolation, but as part of a package of improvements, for example, lighting, street furniture, upgrades to buildings, redesigning areas to make it more difficult for crime and anti social behaviour to take place, neighbourhood wardens, etc.
CCTV can play a vital role in crime prevention and detection as well as raising public confidence and feelings of safety.
The service provides monitoring for ;
- 295 CCTV cameras
- Radios for Neighbourhood wardens and our security guards
- Radios for town centre management and security
Our aim is to provide a CCTV system and control room which provides Town wide coverage monitoring, Housing Revenue Account managed open space, buildings, other assets and security for our staff. The co-ordination of the relevant response service is provided through the control room and a weighted response deployed to incidents.
Through this unique partnership and close interagency working, the control room has and will continue to successfully target hot spots across the housing estates, the town and specific crimes and issues. Resulting in financial savings to the Borough and to the Housing Revenue Account and other public sector partners and improved public reassurance and a public deterrent to offenders of crime and anti social behaviour.
