For new tenants of accommodation based schemes, the notification that they wish to apply for help with their support charge is to be completed at the sign up interview.  The support provider will provide information and support regarding the application process and forward a completed one page application to the Supporting People Team immediately.  The “application date” for Supporting People subsidy will be the date of tenancy.

In either case the “commencement date” of Supporting People subsidy will be:

For people receiving Housing Benefit, commencement of subsidy will be from the application date or the effective start date of Housing Benefit, whichever is the latest.

For people requesting Fairer Charging assessment, commencement of subsidy will be from the application date or the date Fairer Charging Team assess the client as unable to Pay the charge, whichever is the latest.
