Volunteering at LydiardMany people get a great amount of enjoyment out of Lydiard Park. If you would like to put something back or make a difference why not get more involved by volunteering or joining the Friends of Lydiard Park?

Volunteering at Lydiard Park

Volunteers bring lots of enthusiasm, expertise and interests to Lydiard Park and in return we can offer the chance to learn new skills and make friends. There are practical tasks within the park like fencing and path repairs, sowing wild flower areas and creating wildlife habitats and hands-on gardening inside the Walled Garden. But it’s not all physical work -we also need stewards in the garden, volunteers to help with wildlife surveys and inside the house, much of the “behind the scenes” research and conservation projects are conducted by volunteers.

Volunteering is a great way to gain a different experience of Lydiard Park and to contribute to something you care about.

Sunday 24 February, 1 to 3pm at the Coach House Education Room next to the Tea Rooms

Come along to our open day to meet the Lydiard Park wardens and other volunteer wardens to find out about the work that we do to maintain and run the park.

Volunteering at Lydiard House

Our volunteers care about Lydiard House and enjoy helping to care for the museum and learning more about it’s fascinating history. Volunteering here is a great way of finding out more about local history and feeling a real connection to your community and local history. Many people join us for short periods to gain experience of museums work to support their studies or prepare for a new career. All our volunteers enjoy being part of a supportive and stimulating working environment, developing skills, confidence and building new friendships.

Volunteering opportunities will be advertised on this website and via the Swindon Volunteer centre.

The Friends of Lydiard Park

The Friends of Lydiard Park is an independent charity set up to support the continued enhancement of Lydiard House and Park.

The Friends were instrumental in Lydiard Park's major landscape restoration project and today they play an active and important role in the protection, promotion, conservation and interpretation of the House & Park and St. Mary's Church. Funds raised through membership help finance work that might otherwise not be possible.

Members of the Friends of Lydiard Park enjoy a range of benefits including free entry to Lydiard House and the Walled Garden; invitations to exclusive Friends events and tours to other historic properties.
