Join us in celebrating a major milestone: 70 years since Lydiard House first opened its doors to the public.

Originally the ancestral home of the St John family for over 500 years, Lydiard Park was saved during the Second World War when it was purchased by Swindon Corporation in 1943. Thanks to Town Clerk David Murray John’s efforts to secure funding, Lydiard House was restored and officially opened twelve years later on 14th May 1955.

To mark this anniversary, a special display in the Main Hall of Lydiard House will showcase original objects and documents from this pivotal moment in Lydiard’s history, including:

• Architectural plans of Lydiard House (1947)
• An invitation to the official opening
• A programme from the 1955 opening ceremony

Come and explore the story behind one of Swindon’s most treasured historic buildings.

Lydiard House Museum is open Wednesday – Sunday, 11am – 4pm (last admission 3:30pm).

Admission to Lydiard House Museum costs £6.70 for an adult and £3.65 for a child. Under 3s go free! Family tickets also available.
