Take a free guided tour to discover the enchanting history of Lydiard House, home to the St John family for over 500 years. Learn how the St John family harnessed impressive country house technology and fine Georgian design, and hear how portraiture has transformed over the years.
Saturday 17th September
Guided tours at 11:30am, 1pm and 2pm
- Fully booked: 11:30am – Highlights Tour of Lydiard House Museum: discover the elegant State Rooms of Lydiard House and hear about the lavish lives of the St John family, which were plagued by scandal, debt, and tragedy.
- 1pm – Underneath the Wallpaper Tour: hear about the small and big changes in country house technology that influenced how Lydiard House changed over time.
- 2pm – Changing Faces Tour: presents Modern portraits from Swindon Museum and Art Gallery, alongside paintings of the St John Family. Hear about the transformation of portraiture in the Twentieth Century, and celebrate its endurance as a genre in British art.

Tour attendees also have the option to visit Lydiard House Museum at their own leisure, for which an entry fee is payable.
