Hiring a BBQ
Following the recent hot and dry conditions, the use of barbeques have been suspended at all Swindon Borough Council-owned country parks.
If you have an upcoming booking impacted by the suspension, you will be contacted and a full refund will be processed automatically. We apologise for any disappointment this may cause.
BBQs are available to hire between 1 April and 31 October from midday to park closure. The park closes at dusk, (the exact time depends on the time of year – please check opening times displayed at the car park entrances).
We have:
- six large BBQs (plots 1 to 6), costing £70 each per session, for up to 40 people
- four small BBQs (plots 7 to 10), costing £49 each per session, for up to 15 people
Please be aware that you can only burn charcoal on our BBQs.
Booking and paying for a BBQ plot couldn’t be easier! Simply book online using the button below. We will confirm your booking via email. This is your receipt so please bring it with you on the day.

When you arrive
A warden will be available to unlock your BBQ. If a member of the team is not in the BBQ area when you arrive, please go to the wardens’ office next to the Forest Café, or contact the team on 07542505381.
The warden team and telephone contact number are available until 3.30pm. If you are planning to arrive after this time, please call ahead and they will unlock your allocated BBQ for you.

Portable BBQs
Portable BBQs (including gas BBQs), portable stoves or fires are not permitted anywhere in the grounds of Lydiard Park.
Picnics
You are welcome to picnic in the grounds of Lydiard Park in the field to the right of the main car park off Hook Street.
